This Privacy Policy explains how Make No Law ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use https://makenolaw.com and our related services.
What Information We Collect
Information you provide. When you create an account, we collect a display name, email address, and password (or authentication credentials if you sign in through Google or Apple). You may also provide a birthday, profile description, website URL, and avatar image.
Content you submit. We collect the posts, comments, component code, images, videos, votes, reports, feedback, and other content you submit through the service, along with associated metadata such as timestamps.
Information collected automatically. When you use the service, we may collect your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, actions taken, and server log data. We may also collect advertising and analytics identifiers, campaign attribution information such as UTM parameters, active engagement time, and events such as account registration. We use cookies and similar technologies described below.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the service.
- To personalize your experience, including content recommendations and feed ranking.
- To send service-related emails, including notifications about content you have posted, popular content digests, and product updates.
- To enforce our Terms and Conditions and community rules, including moderation, abuse prevention, spam detection, and security.
- To respond to feedback, support requests, and legal obligations.
- To generate aggregated, de-identified analytics about how the service is used.
- To measure the effectiveness of advertisements for the service, attribute visits and registrations to campaigns, create engagement audiences, retarget visitors, and exclude registered users from acquisition campaigns where appropriate.
How We Protect Your Information
We do not collect credit card numbers or process payments. Your personal information is stored on secured servers accessible only to authorized personnel. All connections to the service are encrypted via TLS/SSL. We implement security measures when you submit or access your information to maintain the safety of your personal data.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and compile aggregate data about site traffic and usage. We also use PostHog for product analytics and the Meta Pixel and X Pixel for advertising measurement and audience creation. These services may set or read cookies and similar identifiers, receive browser and device information, and associate activity on the service with information they already hold, subject to their respective privacy policies.
You can configure your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, disable them, use tracking protection or content blocking tools, or clear stored cookies and site data. Disabling cookies may limit some features of the service, such as staying logged in.
Third-Party Services and Advertising
We currently use Google and Apple authentication services for sign-in. These providers may set their own cookies or collect information subject to their own privacy policies when you use their login features.
We do not currently display third-party advertising on the service. We do advertise the service through third-party platforms, including Meta and X. Their tracking technologies help us measure campaigns and create audiences based on neutral acquisition and engagement events, such as campaign source, active time thresholds, and completed registration. Meta Core Setup is enabled to restrict sharing custom parameters and portions of URLs following the domain.
Automatic Advanced Matching is currently disabled. We do not currently send email addresses or phone numbers to Meta or X for advertising matching. If these practices change, we will update this policy as appropriate.
Third-Party Disclosure
We do not sell or trade your personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate and promote the service, including hosting, email delivery, analytics, authentication, advertising measurement, and audience providers. This includes sharing limited event and device information with PostHog, Meta, and X for the purposes described above. Depending on applicable law, disclosure for cross-context behavioral advertising may be considered a "share" even when no money is exchanged. We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or government request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to enforce our Terms, protect safety, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect our rights or the rights of others.
In the event of a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
Aggregated, de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you may be shared for any purpose.
Third-Party Links
The service may contain user-submitted links and embedded content from third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.
Do Not Track
We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals. Advertising and analytics technologies described above may collect information across websites or services. You can limit this collection using browser cookie and tracking controls, content-blocking tools, and the advertising preference controls offered by Meta and X. Third-party login providers such as Google and Apple may also set their own cookies when you use their sign-in services.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
The service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account information, posts, comments, media, and associated data for as long as your account exists and as needed for the purposes described in this policy. Even after you delete a post or comment, we may retain copies in our databases, backups, and server logs. Uploaded media is currently retained indefinitely; in the future we may begin removing media that has been deleted after a specified period.
We may also retain information as necessary for legal compliance, abuse prevention, dispute resolution, enforcement of our Terms, and legitimate business purposes. Moderation records (such as actions taken on content or accounts) may be retained even after account deletion.
To request deletion of your account and associated personal data, contact us at support@makenolaw.com. We will process your request in accordance with applicable law. Some information, such as public posts and comments, may persist in archived or cached form after account deletion.
Your Rights
You can update your display name, email, description, website, avatar, and notification preferences by logging in to your account settings. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or the right to object to or restrict certain processing. Cross-Border Data
If you access the service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our infrastructure or service providers are located. By using the service, you consent to such transfers.
Law Enforcement and Legal Requests
We may disclose your information in response to valid legal process, such as subpoenas, court orders, or government requests, and where we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm, protect rights, or comply with applicable law.
Data Breach Response
