The salt in the ocean comes from the land. Rain slowly erodes the land into streams and the ocean by breaking down rock into ions and particles. Many
of those particles are consumed or absorbed by sea creatures, and the remaining have accumulated over millions of years to make the ocean salty.
This saltiness comes from those remaining sodium and chloride particles, which account for more then 90% of the particles in the ocean.
